Temporary Assistant Director,UNICEF Relations and Program Strategy
Reporting to the Managing Director of Global Programs and Field Engagement (GPFE) Department, the Temporary Assistant Director will manage the relations and engagement with UNICEF colleagues in New York, country offices, and regional office; build capacity of staff on UNICEF programs; and strengthen knowledge management related to information on UNICEF programs.
This full-time temporary assignment is for 16 weeks starting in December 2016.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to)**:**
UNICEF relations and engagement
Provide guidance on engaging UNICEF colleagues with key U.S. Fund (USF) constituents for maximum reach and impact while working to achieve mutual goals
Oversee UNICEF participation in USF special events such as the Annual Meeting, Snowflake Ball, regional speaker series, etc.
UNICEF education and program guidance
Actualize an educational program on UNICEF for USF staff, building staff’s capacity to articulate UNICEF’s approach, programs, and priorities in an accurate and compelling manner with key stakeholders
Provide staff access to quality, updated educational materials and resources on UNICEF’s approach and programs
Curate and oversee the production of the department’s monthly UNICEF Program and Funding Bulletin, ensuring that content is salient to USF staff with regard to program information and funding needs and aligned with strategic priorities
Make presentations and lead meetings on programs with donors and UNICEF colleagues and with USF staff
Manage outreach to UNICEF regarding UNICEF and/or UN events and meetings at New York Headquarters that could be attended by USF staff (or constituents)
Provide special trainings to regional and national board members and other constituents as needed.
UNICEF Program info acquisition, management and dissemination
Stay abreast of the current situation for women and children in development and humanitarian settings
Operate as a day-to-day focal point and UNICEF program resource for USF departments
Review, edit, and fact check data used in USF communications, e.g., key reports, proposals, and concept notes
Other Duties
Manage the UNICEF Relations and Program Strategy Senior Associate and intern(s) related to UNICEF engagement, UNICEF education and program guidance, knowledge management, and other responsibilities, as needed
Support team members on grants management issues, as needed
Assist with special projects and other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in social sciences, international development, public health, public administration, public policy, or a related field and a minimum of 7 years related experience
Direct knowledge of international development and/or humanitarian affairs, including knowledge of UNICEF and the United Nations
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills including the ability to effectively liaise with people in diverse multi-cultural environments
Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills
Excellent organization and strong attention to detail
Proven ability to creatively solve problems and meet the needs of diverse stakeholders
Proven ability to lead and manage a team
Proven ability to work under deadline pressure and handle multiple, complex projects simultaneously
Experience and adaptability to using a variety of technologies, such as proprietary grants management and CRM databases, FreshDesk, MailChimp, Survey Monkey, BaseCamp, SharePoint, and other tools as needed
