Philanthropy Officer, UNICEF Next Generation

Reporting to the Senior Director of UNICEF Next Generation, the Philanthropy Officer will help build and grow UNICEF Next Generation (NextGen) by engaging young professionals, leaders and future/current philanthropists who are committed to UNICEF’s mission. The Philanthropy Officer will build relationships with NextGen donors, their families and their networks and expand the program to new markets and constituents.

This position can be based in one of our regional offices located in Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York City.

This is a three-year grant-funded position.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

  • Build donor relationships with Steering Committee members across the country, working with relationship staff and events team in regions where appropriate

  • Manage a portfolio of young, high net worth individuals, their families and their networks, and support the Assistant Director of UNICEF Next Generation and Development staff in raising increased revenue from this group of highly engaged philanthropists by soliciting and securing gifts at the major gift, foundation and corporate level, includes identification, cultivation, and stewardship

  • Support the Assistant Director and Senior Director in ensuring that NextGen meets its annual financial goal of $3 million+

  • Work with NextGen members and respective Relationship Leaders to engage members’ families’ when appropriate, and liaison with respective National Committees and UNICEF HQ PFP when family and connections extend outside the USA

  • Research and identify prospects to further develop the pipeline for the NextGen Steering Committees, ensuring we are attracting diverse supporters, and supporting the strategic goals of the organization (major gifts, corporate, foundation) and strategize on how to further engage prospects and NextGen members in the lifecycle of a UNICEF supporter

  • Oversee NextGen’s internal relationships across the organization to ensure timely connection, execution and maximum strategic impact

  • Work in partnership with the Special Events Team to oversee event committee management, relationship development and solicitations for UNICEF USA’s special events

  • Develop transition plans for NextGen members for post-NextGen UNICEF engagement, i.e. regional boards, national board, major donor, speaker series members, etc.

  • Manage portfolio of NextGen widespread members with a goal of growing membership, increasing philanthropic support, and advancing members to the next level within NextGen (Steering Committee or higher level membership) to maximize contributions to UNICEF USA

  • Connect high level NextGen members to new UNICEF business ventures and collaborative models to help accelerate innovation and partnership opportunities

  • Stay on top of millennial and Gen X giving trends and vehicles and family philanthropy to keep NextGen best in class

  • Brainstorm, develop and support the NextGen Senior Director, Assistant Director & committee members in special NextGen projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience specifically in high net worth donor portfolio management and/or board/committee leadership and management, with at least 3 years of frontline major gifts fundraising experience, or proven track record of securing five and six-figure gifts

  • Must be a self-motivated professional with a proven success record in major gifts fundraising

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal

  • Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player

  • Proven ability to prioritize; work independently; handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously; and to generate pragmatic solutions to challenges

  • Strong customer service approach to interactions with colleagues and partners; ability to navigate complex environments, and help build relationships with a variety of stakeholders

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and have experience using a fundraising database

  • Must share a strong commitment to international humanitarian relief and passionately embrace the mission of UNICEF USA

  • Ability and willingness to travel in the interest of donor cultivation and stewardship, as needed

Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship.
