Grant Writer, Global Programs

The Global Programs Department connect UNICEF USA to UNICEF programs worldwide, providing program information, proposal and report development; managing field visits and engagements; and building staff capacity about UNICEF. The goal of the Resource Mobilization Services section is to provide expertise in resource mobilization throughout the organization.

UNICEF USA seeks a highly skilled professional writer, project manager and administrator with a minimum of five years of experience for donor cultivation, strategy, private and major gifts fundraising. The manager will be responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of donors, which includes donor strategy, engagement with UNICEF colleagues, preparation and submission of proposals, reports, presentations, other fundraising and educational materials, and other special projects as assigned.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

  • Strengthen fundraising initiatives across UNICEF USA through donor strategy and facilitation of cross-departmental collaboration and resource development.

  • Prepare high quality grant applications and write proposals, reports, letters of intent, briefs, acknowledgments, presentations and other communications for submission to donors and other potential funding sources in a timely manner.

  • Facilitate strategic engagements and educational opportunities with key UNICEF colleagues, includes staff briefings, donor calls and private donor engagements. Manage the full process cycle of developing briefing memos, handling logistics and following up on funding opportunities and proposal development.

  • Manage holistic grant cycle for major donors, civil society organizations and corporate partners, including proposal development, tracking progress and donor reporting.

  • Develop partnership, donor and program strategy in coordination with UNICEF’s mission, approach and sectoral work in countries and regions around the world, matching with priorities of private donors, corporate partners and foundations.

  • Provide strategic program guidance to fundraisers across the organization, participating in donor meetings and calls to provide programmatic information and funding priorities, advising partners and donors on UNICEF’s value add, technical expertise, funding priorities, and possible synergies.

  • Monitor UNICEF emergencies outside of normal business hours in order to provide key messages, program information, proposal and report development, and other support as needed.

  • Conduct research, collect, analyze and interpret UN/UNICEF data and information needed for proposals, reports, budgets, etc., utilizing UN, UNICEF, UNICEF USA and other resources to develop fundraising materials.

  • Make presentations and lead meetings internally and externally with UNICEF colleagues and internally with UNICEF USA staff about UNICEF programs and priorities.

  • Assist with special projects for the division, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred), and a minimum of five years of experience with private and major gift cultivation and solicitation.

  • Knowledge of international development issues essential. Knowledge of UNICEF and international development issues particular to children is a plus.

  • Superior writing skills: demonstrated track record in writing proposals securing six and seven figure funding from private, major gifts, and other funding sources.

  • Experience organizing and facilitating strategic meetings and events.

  • Strong research capacity (mainly internet); interpreting, analyzing, complex international development issues and representing such information in a clear and concise written manner for corporate and private foundation audiences.

  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with independence; ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality required.

Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship.
